What if an instrument could tell a whole life story? To celebrate the centenary of Mstislav Rostropovich's birth, the Orchestre de chambre de Paris puts the spotlight on the cello.
A legendary figure in 20th-century music, Rostropovich left his mark on his era not only as a performer but also as a teacher, composer, and conductor.
On stage, cellist Astrig Siranossian, an heir to his teaching, performs two works intimately linked to Rostropovich: Britten's Symphony for Cello and Orchestra and Shostakovich's formidable Cello Concerto No. 1, which he premiered and to whom it was dedicated.
In between the two, Prokofiev's "Classical" Symphony also recalls his connection with the composer, with whom Rostropovich had studied composition. 🎻 A vibrant concert centred around a musician who pushed the boundaries of his instrument.
