Concert Ak Dan Gwang Chil (ADG7)

As part of the 140th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and France, the Centre Culturel Coréen presents an exceptional evening with Ak Dan Gwang Chil (ADG7).

Acclaimed on international stages, ADG7 has established itself as one of the most unique groups in the contemporary Korean music scene.

The New York Times hailed them as “one of the most inventive and dazzling shows,” while their participation in NPR Music’s famous Tiny Desk Concert, an American live concert series followed worldwide, revealed the power and energy of their stage performances to an international audience.

Drawing on traditional Korean music to reinvent it with a resolutely contemporary energy, the group continues its global reach. This autumn, ADG7 will continue its European tour with stops in the UK, Spain, Sweden, and France, among others.

The French audience will thus be able to discover their rich universe and communicative energy on stage. Founded in 2015, this eight-musician ensemble revisits traditional Korean music by combining traditional instruments and electronic sounds.

Drawing inspiration from folk songs (minyo) and shamanic ritual music (gut) from the current Hwanghae province in North Korea, the group offers a singular musical universe where heritage and contemporary creation meet.

Among the emblematic pieces from their repertoire, the concert will notably feature Yeongjeonggeori, a piece blending the timbres of several shamanic voices to create an atmosphere that is both mystical and powerful.

The audience will also discover Hi Hi, which evokes the repetition of daily life through hypnotic melodic patterns, as well as Mujin (No End, No Limit), a work celebrating the infinite journey of existence and carrying a message of hope in the face of life’s challenges.
