Camille Yembe - Jeune & Laide Tour

Camille Yembe addresses the boredom of everyday life, social issues, and the feeling of being between two worlds. “Two years ago, I was very uncomfortable. I was trying to conform to something. But I understood that it was in my best interest to be myself.” This idea is reflected in how she defines her music. “What’s certain is that I want my music to be popular. I embrace the pop side. For me, it can absorb everything: you can have a rap inspiration, you can mix genres. There are no limits.” In Jeune et Laide, this approach takes the form of an autobiographical work. The track “Rien à fêter” pushes this reflection even further: “I am young, Black, ugly, and have a flat nose.”

Camille Yembe also asserts her dual culture. The project’s cover features a flag inspired by that of her country of origin, but reinvented in her image. Improvised, it reflects her own journey: that of an artist who had to build herself up and find her place. A leopard stripe also appears, a symbol of strength and dignity. The album also makes room for other voices, including that of her father, who recounts his arrival in Belgium before answering a simple question: “Do you think a dented star can still shine?”
