It starts with a bridge. Or a footbridge, for the more timid. From the shore of “La Comédie”, the ultra-existential denouement of Tambour Vision, to that of “L’Inconnu en personne”, cultivating a synthetic interiority that only asks to be shared. A “state of our coexistences” refusing hasty judgments. The tempo quickens, the strings rise gracefully. And Bertrand Belin’s timbre resonates like no other. Since the release of Tambour Vision in 2022, he has appeared in two films, Le Roman de Jim by the Larrieu brothers (with whom he had previously filmed Tralala) and L’Amour et les forêts by Valérie Donzelli. Also in theatre in “En travers de sa gorge” by Marc Lainé. And then he wrote a new book, La Figure. Where, in filigree, he comments on the theatre of his origins, flanked by a strange alter ego, a Dantesque guide, an inner voice that has become a constant companion. Once again, the scansion of his words, his taste for circular structure, stands out. These are found again in Watt. Bertrand Belin always manipulates a malleable material, a pop deliberately lost between rock and chanson, shimmering with jazz and blues, inhabited by a question that fascinates him, as it does all of us, for that matter: verticality.
