AAA_chan Exhibition Paris 2026 : Les Treize Nuits

For her first Parisian exhibition, Japanese artist AAA_chan revisits thirteen classic shunga scenes — including a nod to Hokusai's famous The Dream of the Fisherman's Wife — through mischievous and tender cats.

A self-taught Japanese artist, AAA_chan pays homage to shunga — ukiyo-e prints dedicated to love — by reinterpreting classic scenes through mischievous and tender cats, with her own pictorial touch.

For her first solo exhibition in Paris, she presents “Les Treize Nuits” (The Thirteen Nights): thirteen original works, painted on hanging scrolls (kakejiku) and framed canvases.

This number carries a double meaning: thirteen as the number of works exhibited, but also as a nod to a Japanese legend according to which the cat — absent from the twelve traditional zodiac signs — would actually be the thirteenth, forgotten by history.

Each work revisits a scene of love from ancient shunga, sometimes tender, sometimes mischievous, always imbued with modesty and humour; some pieces even converse with emblematic ukiyo-e masterpieces, such as a mischievous wink to Hokusai's The Dream of the Fisherman's Wife, where the octopus becomes a squid and the diver, a mischievous cat.

The exhibition also features a guest work from one of the artist's patrons. A resolutely purple and gold universe, blending Japanese tradition and contemporary energy.
